NY governor introduces ‘yes means yes’ consent legislation to curb college sexual assaults

States have been looking to follow California in adopting affirmative consent legislation— commonly known as “yes means yes”— to curb sexual assaults on college campuses.

New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo said during a speech in mid-January that he wants a statewide affirmative consent law for all college campuses, similar to California’s. Cuomo has previously been successful in getting the State of University of New York’s (SUNY) board of trustees to approve similar policies at its schools.
Unlike California’s law, the law Cuomo is proposing would apply to all public and private institutions, not just state-funded schools. Read More
